Despite the fact that Europe is a multicultural continent with many customs, languages and currencies, online commerce is thriving here. Join me for a look at which marketplaces dominate in Europe.
Allegro is the number one marketplace in Poland, fifth in Europe and tenth in the world. Its value is nearing €10 billion and with 13 million active users, this makes it an attractive opportunity for retailers. It offers products in all key categories, including automotive, fashion, home and garden, electronics and health and beauty.
Britain’s Asos is one of the few online stores that focuses specifically on fashion. It favours mainly young retailers and up-and-coming designers. They are very customer-friendly – and show up to 7,000 new products a week and send goods to more than 140 countries around the world. A big plus is the app that allows customers to insert a photo of the clothes they would like and based on this, the app then searches for matching or similar items.
Amazon is the leader among online marketplaces. It is one of the largest retail chains in the world, selling almost everything that is possible in the world of commerce. As well as serving customers and consumers, it also provides a space for retailers, developers, businesses and content creators, making it a very unique platform. It operates in some 15 countries worldwide, and eight in Europe – France, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the UK.

Emag is the largest online marketplace in Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. With more than 1.4 million products and over 3,500 retailers, up to half a million customers visit this online platform every day. They can choose from more than 1,600 available categories, ranging from electronics to cosmetics, sports equipment, auto and accessories, and much more.
